Why you'll
love this trip

  • Visit Sigiriya's Lion Rock – a UNESCO World Heritage site – and if you’re game, climb the steps to the top for amazing views over the jungle.
  • Explore an area of Sri Lanka only recently opened to tourism – considered to be off-limits for years due to the civil war, the gates to Jaffna are now open to adventurers once more. Discover Tamil culture and see Point Pedro – Sri Lanka’s northernmost point.
  • Kick back in the sun on Trincomalee Beach’s bright and sandy shoreline. Enjoy the open skies, swaying palm trees and glittering waters, then stop by a local village to join the community in making a traditional Tamil meal.
  • Witness ritual and devotion in the spiritual heart of the country during a visit to Kandy’s Temple of the Tooth.
  • Observe wild elephants from basic tree houses and hopefully catch an outstanding sunset in Wasgamuwa National Park – one of the most biodiverse protected areas in Sri Lanka.

Visit the Dambulla cave in the afternoon after your breakfast drive; the ascent will take 20 to 30 minutes. Gorgeous scenery featuring five caverns, over 150 Buddha statues, and paintings of many deities Spend some time relaxing. The best reserved cave temple in Srilanka.

Overnight: Dambulla.

We drive from Dambulla to Kandy after breakfast. On the route to Matale, stop by a spice garden where you may learn about local Sri Lankan spices and get knowledge about them. You can also have lunch at the spice garden. Visit Kandyan traditional cultural dance after the travel to Kandy through the spice garden.

Overnight : Kandy.

Following breakfast, we go to the temple of the teeth and then to the batik location, where a design is first sketched into the fabric and then hot wax is applied to the parts that are delineated. The waxed portions of the fabric resist the dye when it is immersed into a dye bath, producing a striking contrast. To produce multicolored graphics, the procedure is repeated using various dyes.

Overnight :Kandy

Experience the most breathtaking train ride from Kandy to the hill country, which passes the highest railway station in the world (1891M Patipola), passes through mountains, waterfalls, tea plantations, forests, and verdant greenery before disembarking at Haputale. From sea level hill country, which is 1431 meters. In the evening, you will enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan meal with the Sri Lankan family, including our well-known rice and curry. Discover How to Make Delectable Cashew Curry.

Overnight : Haputale

Hike to Lipton Seat after having our breakfast. It takes three to four hours to trek to the top point, which is the Lipton's seat, through a beautiful tea plantation around eighteen kilometers from Haputale and seven kilometers from Dambetenna Tea Factory.

Overnight : Haputale

After breakfast, make your way to Embilipitiya. We make stops along the road to visit the nearby pottery village, a rubber plantation, and Diyaluma Waterfall, which is the second-tallest waterfall in the nation and among Sri Lanka's most exquisite. After that, drive to Udawalawa, take a jeep to go on safari in Udawalawa National Park, and then drive to the Embilipitiya hotel, arriving there at approximately 6:30 or 7:00 p.m.

Overnight : Embilipitiya

After a late breakfast at the Centuria Hotel, which features a swimming pool, we will depart Embilipitiya for Mirissa at 11:00 a.m.

One of Sri Lanka's greatest beaches for unwinding is Mirissa Beach. Your fantasies of a tropical paradise are essentially brought to life by Mirissa and her gorgeous sandy beach.

This remote crescent-shaped beach, which is only 200 kilometers from the equator and at the southern tip of the island of Sri Lanka, is the ideal spot to unwind and forget about the busyness of your everyday life.

Some of Sri Lanka's most breathtaking sunrises and sunsets may be seen at this little sandy tropical beach.

Overnight : Mirissa

We will go early in the morning to go whale viewing on a boat. About three hours.

One of the most stunning beaches in the southwest of Sri Lanka is Mirissa Beach. The hotel where we are staying is a gorgeous location with a beach, and it serves delicious meals. Sea food is also well-known in this area. While at the beach, why not sample some sea? The hotel also offers a lovely pool. Take it easy on Mirissa. Surfing at Weligama bay would give a different experience.

Overnight : Mirissa

Following breakfast at the hotel, we head to Galle, stopping along the way to see the well-known stilt fishing at Habaraduwa and turtle hatchery projects on the south-west coastline, Galle Fort,

We will go to Colombo around 2:00 pm or later after finishing visiting Galle Fort.

Is this trip
right for you?

  • Jaffna has opened to tourism after being off-limits to visitors for the past 30 years, meaning it’s quieter, less developed and services and accommodation are not yet quite up to the same standard as the rest of the country.
  • Though its equatorial position means constant year-round temperatures, the summer months in Sri Lanka are very hot with short, sharp monsoons in the south-west of the country. Be sure to use adequate sun protection and drink plenty of water.

Important notes

1.Some Travellers have reported being approached by locals offering excursions before their Intrepid trip commences. This has been particularly prevalent in and around the hotels used by Intrepid. These guides are in no way connected to Intrepid and we cannot guarantee the safety or quality standards of their tours. We advise customers against joining any tour offered by the unauthorised guides.

2. A single supplement is available if you’d prefer not to share a room on this trip. The single supplement applies to all nights of your trip and is subject to availability. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.

3. The Perahera Festival is a 10 day period of evening processions to honour the Sacred Tooth, which is enshrined at Kandy's Temple of the Tooth. Each night features thousands of perfomers, including dancers, drummers, and a parade of more than 50 decorated elephants. Due to Intrepid's stance on elephant cruelty we do not visit the Perahera Festival and cannot purchase tickets on your behalf.

4. Please provide your full name exactly as per passport at the time of booking for train tickets. Fees may apply for amendments to details within 45 days of departure, and in some cases you will be required to cover the cost of issuing new tickets.

5. Train tickets are in very high demand. We always try our best to secure tickets, but if we cannot book them, you will continue your journey by private vehicle.
